What license does Supernal TTS use?
Supernal TTS uses the Fair Source License v0.9, a "source-available" license that balances open access with commercial sustainability.
Can I use it for free?
Yes! You can use Supernal TTS for free if:
- ✅ Personal hobby projects
- ✅ Educational purposes (schools, universities, students)
- ✅ Research projects
- ✅ Open source projects (non-profit)
- ✅ Commercial projects generating less than $10,000 USD per year
When do I need a commercial license?
You need a commercial license if your use of Supernal TTS generates $10,000 USD or more in gross annual revenue.
This includes:
- SaaS businesses above the threshold
- Enterprise internal use (if company revenue > $10k/year from software using this)
- Consulting/agency work where aggregate revenue > $10k/year
- Commercial products or services built on this software
Why this license?
We chose the Fair Source License because:
- Open Access: Anyone can view, modify, and use the source code
- Hobbyist-Friendly: Free for personal projects, education, and small businesses
- Sustainable: Commercial users contribute back, enabling continued development
- Fair: You only pay when you're making meaningful revenue

Can I modify the code?
Yes! You can modify Supernal TTS for any use case. You just need to:
- Keep the license notice in modified versions

Can I redistribute it?
Yes! You can redistribute Supernal TTS in source or binary form, as long as:
- You include the original license
- You inform users about commercial licensing requirements
- You don't remove copyright notices
What if my revenue crosses $10,000?
Contact us at license@supernal.ai within 60 days of crossing the threshold. We'll work out a fair commercial license based on your use case and scale.
What if I'm evaluating for enterprise use?
Evaluation is free! Test and evaluate Supernal TTS without any licensing concerns. When you're ready to deploy to production, reach out to discuss commercial licensing.
Can I get a different license?
Yes! We can discuss alternative licensing arrangements for specific use cases. Contact license@supernal.ai to discuss your needs.
What about contributions?
We welcome contributions! By contributing, you agree that your contributions will be licensed under the same Fair Source License. This ensures the project remains accessible while sustainable.
